GenCon

August 16th, 2012

I’m there now.

Anybody else hanging out in Indianapolis? Running a game I should attend? Seen an awesome game I should check out?

My big disappointment so far was missing out on Android: Netrunner, which I was hoping to play some pick-up games with. Had a fairly slow Thursday otherwise: Super RoboRally (played with giant-sized, fully-operational lego robots) is cute. Mechnoir, the mecha expansion to Technoir, has been released, and Ken Hite makes for an awesome panel.

Also, check out the Indie Games on Demand room. It’s pretty awesome up there.  I may end up running a game there if I get the chance. I’ll try to post an update here if that happens.

I am here and would love to meet one of my culture heroes! I’m doing a seminar at 1 today (Saturday, Westin: Council room) on the Old-School Renaissance that you may find interesting, and running pick-up games in the Embassy Suites lobby starting at 7 tonight.

Apologies for not catching up with you, Tavis. My best laid plans to check this post regularly throughout the con was thwarted when my Gencon badge destroyed my smartphone*; so I was only able to check first thing in the morning and in the evenings.

For my next con, I’ll probably have more forewarning and will be able to make a post like this before I’m actually at the con.

*I have/had an HTC G2, which is a great phone. It has a keyboard that slides out and snaps up (for better ergonomics and a slimmer profile while using the keyboard. The touchscreen is, therefore, connected to the keyboard/phone by a cable.

I was outside in Indy and the wind was blowing my badge around. So I took it off and put it in my pocket. But as it went into my pocket, the laminated edge of the badge slid between the touchscreen and keyboard on the phone and sliced right through that cable. Turned the whole thing into a glorified paperweight.
